Rhythms of Life Workshop / Who Owns Life? @ Leiden University
We were invited by the Arts and Genomics Centre at Leiden University to give a workshop as part of the Who Owns Life? Honours Programme back in March 2015. In the workshop titled “Rhythms of Life”, students were invited to critically explore the forecasted movement towards self-monitoring of health. Placing themselves as test cases, the students investigated the Physiological (Tongue Analysis), Bio-Chemical (creating their own Universal Indicators for pH Analysis), Behavioural (Controlled Breathing + Synchronisation) and Environmental (using Heart Rate Variability Monitors to self-track and map an area of the city) factors related to personal health through a series of hands-on activities and experiments. Participants were subsequently invited to debate the perceived meanings, value, and ethical implications derived from their personal data exchanges.
